Three Essential Tools for Your WordPress Site

WordPress has become the default choice for a majority of websites being built today. Partly because of this, it has also become a target for many hackers from around the world.  Even hosting companies are coming under increasing attacks on a regular basis. One of your primary resources is to always make sure you have a complete backup of you site on a regular basis stored somewhere besides your host. There are plenty of free cloud hosted storage suppliers.

There a number of tools available for protecting your WordPress website and while nothing you can do will probably 100% protect it, I would encourage everyone to at least use some means of protection. There are paid tools that do an excellent job also, but here are three tools that I recommend that are completely free, and will provide you with a broad range of protection between them to help keep your site secure.

Watch the video to see how I utilize and there are links below for the tools with a brief description of the features.

Three tools for your site:

Wordfence Security – – Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security plugin that includes a firewall, anti-virus scanning, malicious URL scanning and live traffic including crawlers. Wordfence is the only WordPress security plugin that can verify and repair your core, theme and plugin files, even if you don’t have backups. Wordfence is now Multi-Site compatible. Wordfence is great for sending you notices when a plugin needs upgrading also.

WP-Optimize – –  This simple but effective plugin allows you to clean up your WordPress database and optimize it without phpMyAdmin.

Uptime Robot – – Realize that your sites can go down for a number of reasons, including your hosting having problems or suffering a DOS attack. As I said in my video, sometimes something as simple as upgrading a plugin, usually a good thing, can cause problems with you site. Uptime Robot is all about helping you to keep your websites up. It monitors your websites every 5 minutes and alerts you if your sites are down.
